What is an Asphalt Mixing Plant?

Also known as asphalt batching plant, an asphalt mixing plant is core equipment for road construction. It precisely heats, dries, weighs and mixes raw materials including aggregates (crushed stone, sand), mineral powder and asphalt in strict engineering proportions to produce qualified hot-mix asphalt mixtures. 1. Classification by Production Process & Mixing Mode

2. Classification by Equipment Mobility

Divided into stationary type, mobile type and semi-stationary type.
Stationary Asphalt Mixing Plant:
  • It features large production capacity and needs fixed foundation construction for installation. Its reasonable service radius is within 10 kilometers for qualified mixture delivery temperature. It is ideal for long-term commercial asphalt material production, large-scale expressway projects and urban road network construction.
    Mobile Asphalt Mixing Plant:
  • Equipped with self-propelled chassis, it requires no foundation installation, supports tractor transportation and rapid on-site assembly. It is perfectly suitable for road maintenance, emergency road repairs and scattered small-scale engineering projects with multiple construction sites.
  • Semi-fixed Asphalt Mixing Plant:
    Designed with modular assembly structure and transported by trailers, it is positioned between fixed and mobile plants. It is widely used in multi-section highway construction of medium and long distance routes.
     

3. Classification by Production Capacity

Select corresponding capacity according to actual road project demands:
  • Small capacity: ≤40t/h, applicable to rural road construction and minor road repairs.
  • Medium capacity: 40~200t/h, suitable for municipal roads, ordinary highways and expressway connecting roads
  • Large capacity: >200t/h, used for expressways, airports, ports and large-scale key engineering projects.

5.Calculation Method of Asphalt Mixing Plant Output 
Core Calculation Formula:

Theoretical hourly output of asphalt mixing plant (t/h) = Single batch discharge weight × Discharge batches per hour
Basic formula: Q = (G × 60 ÷ T) ÷ 1000
  • Q: Theoretical hourly output, unit: t/h
  • G: Rated single batch capacity, unit: kg
  • T: Single batch circulation cycle, unit: minutes per batch (conventional range: 2.5~3 minutes)
  • Divide by 1000: Unit conversion from kilogram to ton
Under normal working conditions, one batch takes 3 minutes, so the hourly discharge batches = 60 ÷ 3 = 20 batches
Simplified formula: Hourly output (t/h) = Single batch weight (kg) × 20 ÷ 1000
