
There are two types of asphalt drum melters: drum bitumen decanter and bag bitumen melting machine.
The working principle of asphalt drum melting equipment involves two steps: mechanical tilting and heating & melting.
Mechanical Tilting Principle: The drum-packed bitumen is tilted and inverted using a hydraulic mechanical arm, allowing the drum to be placed into the heating chamber. The heating chamber is equipped with heating coils on all sides to heat the bitumen. This method is easy to operate, saving both time and labor.

The bag bitumen melting plant consists of a melting tank and a lifting mechanism. The bags are cut open, allowing the solid bitumen blocks to fall into the heating chamber. A stable high-temperature heat source melts the bitumen, which is then pumped into an bitumen tank.

Heating & Melting Principle: Typically, heat transfer oil or electric heating is used to heat the solid bitumen inside the drum until it melts and separates from the drum. The temperature is controlled between 150–180°C to soften the asphalt without causing carbonization. Depending on the grade of the drum-packed asphalt, the heating process takes 2–4 hours. The molten liquid bitumen is then transferred via an asphalt pump to an asphalt tank or insulated storage tank for later use.
